At Enrich we offer a simple solution for recycling left over food, while at the same time reducing the need to (consumer/extract) natural resources. Within the climate controlled environment of our in-vessel composting facility, leftover food and garden material are transformed into a nutrient rich peat free soil amendment.

The waste management (Food Waste) regulations 2009

These regulations have been brought in to ensure leftover food is not being unnecessarily sent to landfill. The legislation is essential as less than 10% of food waste generated by commercial businesses is currently recycled in Ireland.

The regulations state that all producers of food waste in their commercial premises are required to segregate and separately store all food waste. This food should be collected by an authorised waste collector for composting.

The new legislation is designed to eliminate the environmental pollution causes by food being consigned to landfills

Who is affected by this legislation?

The regulations impose obligations on the major producers of food, such as shops, supermarkets, public houses, state buildings, restaurants, cafés, bistros, wine bars, hot food outlets, canteens in office buildings, hotels, B&Bs, guest houses, hospitals, nursing homes, schools, colleges, train stations, marinas and airports to separate and arrange for the composting of the such food.
