Enrich Launches Landscape Mulch: The Circular Economy Loop

Landscape Mulch

At Enrich Environmental, our business has always been built around the principle of the circular economy, finding new value in materials that might otherwise be wasted. For over two decades we have been transforming Ireland’s green waste into high-quality compost products for use in soils, landscaping, and horticulture.

Now, we are extending that process one step further with the launch of Enrich Landscape Mulch. This product represents a practical, sustainable solution that makes full use of every fraction of the composting process.

From Green Waste to Landscape Mulch

From Green Waste to Landscape Mulch

Every year, thousands of tonnes of green waste, from parks, gardens, and landscaping projects, arrive at our facility. Through windrow composting, this material is naturally broken down over a period of weeks, as heat, microbes, and oxygen transform it into mature compost.

During screening, we separate the compost at 12-15mm to create our soil improvers and engineered soil blends. What remains is the course, woody “oversize” fraction. Instead of treating this as a by-product, we process and grade it into a functional mulch sized 0-80mm. This is what we now proudly launch as Enrich Landscape Mulch.

By doing so, we ensure that nothing is wasted, a true circular economy outcome.

Why Choose Landscape Mulch?

Mulching is one of the simplest yet most effective practices in landscaping, offering multiple long-term benefits:

  • Weed suppression: A consistent mulch layer blocks sunlight from reaching the soil surface, slowing weed growth and reducing the need for chemical control.
  • Moisture retention: By reducing evaporation, mulch helps maintain soil moisture, improving plant establishment during dry spells.
  • Erosion control: Particularly on banks, verges, and exposed sites, mulch protects soils against heavy rainfall and run-off.
  • Soil improvement: Over time, woody mulch breaks down and contributes organic matter, gradually enhancing soil structure.

The natural dark-brown colour also provides an attractive, uniform finish for planting schemes.

Product Features

  • Grade size: 0-80mm
  • Material: Produced from recycled, composted green material
  • Maturation period: Minimum 10 weeks under controlled composting conditions
  • Colour: Dark brown
  • Settled bulk density: 0.2-0.4 tonnes/m³

As with all recycled products, every effort is made to remove contaminants during production, though occasional traces may remain.

Where Can It Be Used?

Enrich Landscape Mulch is designed with large-scale landscaping in mind and is available in bulk shipments only. Typical applications include:

  • Tree planting schemes: Apply around tree pits to conserve moisture and prevent weed competition.
  • Public realm and roadside planting: Provides a cost-effective ground cover for extensive planting areas.
  • Commercial landscaping projects: Ideal for borders, shrub beds, and large gardens where bulk coverage is required.
  • Erosion-prone sites: A protective layer for banks, slopes, or areas vulnerable to run-off.
  • Winter cover: Acts as a functional mulch layer over beds and borders during the colder months, which can later be top-dressed with decorative bark if desired.

A Sustainable Alternative

By producing Landscape Mulch, we are not only providing landscapers and contractors with a cost-effective, functional product, but also reinforcing our commitment to circular economy principles. Instead of sourcing virgin bark or imported woodchip, this mulch makes use of material already within our composting cycle, lowering environmental impact while delivering practical results.

Enrich Landscape Mulch is now available nationwide in loose bulk loads. For pricing, delivery, or to discuss your next project, contact us at +353 1 610 3672 or visit www.enrich.ie.
