Structural Tree Soil Ireland for Urban Projects
Structural Tree Soil Ireland from Enrich is a load-bearing stone-based growing medium designed to support healthy tree root development beneath pedestrian areas, roads, paving and other engineered urban surfaces.
Also known as Stockholm Soil, this engineered growing medium combines the structural strength required beneath paved surfaces with the soil volume, air and moisture needed for healthy tree development. It is particularly suited to streetscapes, public realm projects, plazas and other urban environments where conventional tree pits may provide insufficient rooting space.
The stone-based structure can meet engineering requirements for pedestrian and vehicular loading while maintaining void spaces for soil, oxygen, water and expanding tree roots. This allows trees to establish beneath hard surfaces without the severe compaction commonly associated with conventional soils installed below paving.
Providing a larger underground rooting area can help trees develop deeper and healthier root systems. Deeper root development can also reduce conflicts between tree roots and surrounding paving, helping minimise the risk of surface lifting as trees mature.
The system can also contribute to Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS). Its interconnected void spaces provide opportunities for stormwater storage, infiltration and attenuation, while established trees further assist through rainfall interception and evapotranspiration.
Enrich structural soil can therefore provide both an engineering and landscape solution, allowing high-quality urban tree planting to be successfully incorporated into areas that must also support pedestrian or vehicular traffic.
Applications include new streetscapes, civic spaces, urban regeneration schemes, central reservations and other projects where long-term tree health must be balanced with structural performance and sustainable stormwater management.
Enrich supplies Structural Tree Soil Ireland for landscape architects, civil engineers, local authorities, developers and contractors working on urban infrastructure and public realm projects.
