Enrich Extensive Green Roof

Intensive Green Roof Substrate

Intensive Green Roof Substrate from Enrich is an engineered growing medium designed for deeper rooftop planting systems supporting grasses, ground cover, flowers, shrubs, lawns and trees.

Intensive green roofs are designed for applications where a greater planting depth is available and a wider range of vegetation is required. They are commonly used on commercial buildings, podiums and larger roof spaces where the objective is to create usable landscaped areas rather than low-maintenance sedum-only systems.

The Enrich substrate is produced from a blend of lightweight aggregates, topsoil, compost and sand to provide the structure, drainage, aeration and nutrient content needed for more demanding planting schemes.

Enrich can also provide a super lightweight green roof substrate for projects where structural loading is a key consideration. Please contact us for further details on project-specific requirements.

Rooftop Growing Medium for Deeper Planting

Unlike extensive systems, intensive green roofs provide sufficient growing depth for a broader range of plants, including ornamental grasses, herbaceous planting, shrubs and even small trees where the structural design allows.

This makes them suitable for rooftop gardens, podium landscapes and amenity areas that are intended to function as usable green spaces rather than purely environmental roof coverings.

Green Roof Soil for Shrubs, Lawns and Trees

The growing medium must provide enough structural stability to support deeper planting while maintaining drainage and aeration around plant roots. Enrich Intensive Green Roof Substrate is engineered to provide a balanced blend of mineral and organic components for these more demanding applications.

The planting depth can be adjusted to suit different vegetation types, allowing landscape designers to specify the appropriate soil profile for lawns, shrubs, perennial planting and trees.

Supporting Sustainable Drainage Systems

Intensive green roofs can contribute to sustainable drainage strategies by retaining rainfall and delaying stormwater runoff. This can help reduce peak flows into conventional drainage infrastructure while also providing valuable urban green space.

Additional benefits can include improved building insulation, increased biodiversity, reduced urban heat and the creation of attractive rooftop landscapes for building occupants.

Manufactured to Green Roof Standards

Enrich Green Roof substrates are manufactured in accordance with F.L.L. guidelines and B.S. 8616:2019. Enrich has also received the Green Technology Award and Cré Innovation Award in recognition of its work in sustainable soil and growing media products.

Key benefits of Enrich Green Roof Substrates include:

  • Suitable for Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS)
  • Supports a wide range of rooftop planting
  • Provides drainage, aeration and water-holding capacity
  • Creates opportunities for urban biodiversity
  • Manufactured using natural and recycled materials
  • Supports carbon retention within urban landscapes
